Windows Instructions

Don't worry! These instructions might look long, but we're just being extra detailed to make sure you can do this easily.

Step 1: Download the Support Tool

  1. Click the blue "Download for Windows" button above.
  2. Your browser will ask what to do with the file. Click Save File.
  3. The file will download to your Downloads folder (usually).

Step 2: Find the Downloaded File

  1. Once downloaded, look for a file named support.zip in your Downloads folder.
  2. To open your Downloads folder:
    • Click the Start button (bottom left corner)
    • Type "downloads" and click on "Downloads" when it appears
    • Or look for a folder icon in your taskbar at the bottom of the screen, click it, and find "Downloads" on the left side

Step 3: Open the ZIP File

  1. Double-click on the support.zip file.
  2. A new window will open showing the contents of the zip file.
  3. You should see a file named RustDesk....exe (the exact name might be slightly different).

Step 4: Run RustDesk

  1. Double-click on the RustDesk....exe file.
  2. If you see a security warning asking "Do you want to run this file?" or "Windows protected your PC":
    • Click "Run" or "Yes" or "More info" then "Run anyway" (it's safe!)
  3. Wait a moment while the program starts up.

Step 5: Share Your Connection Details

  1. Once RustDesk opens, you'll see a window with your ID and a Password.
  2. Call me at 530.255.4204 and tell me both numbers.
  3. When I connect, you'll see a message asking for permission - click Accept.
  4. That's it! I can now see your screen and help you with your issue.

Tip: You can end the session at any time by closing the RustDesk window or clicking the "Disconnect" button.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is RustDesk safe to use?

Yes, RustDesk is completely safe. It creates a temporary connection that only works during our support session. The connection is fully encrypted and can be ended by you at any time by simply closing the program.

Will this program stay on my computer?

For Windows users, the program doesn't install itself - it runs directly from the file you downloaded. When you're done, you can simply close it and delete the files if you wish. For Mac users, you can remove the app from your Applications folder after our session if desired.

Will you be able to see all my files?

I'll only be able to see what's on your screen and use your mouse and keyboard to help fix your issue. I cannot access files without you seeing exactly what I'm doing.
